No spin, just COVID 19 / Coronavirus facts.
please see the links for up to date info, right from the source. Perspective is the key.
At the time this is written, the current Wikipedia numbers there are just over 3.2 million people living in Utah
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah
According to the American Hospital Directory, Utah has 4,621 staffed hospital beds, state wide.
https://www.ahd.com/states/hospital_UT.html
According to the Utah Department Of Health, we have the following numbers. Now keep in mind this is to date, March 1 to July 3 2020.
23,866 Total cases out of 356,636 Total Reported People Tested, out of 3,200,000 people in Utah.
I know, almost 24 thousand cases, that is a lot. that is almost 5000 cases a month. But here is where we need perspective. Utah had 1,529 Total COVID-19 Hospitalizations, Ok Utah has 4,6212 beds right, we can handle it, right? But hold on, that 1529 is from March, that is 305.8 hospitalizations per month
So all of the COVID-19 hospitalizations in Utah could have been handled by Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan

Where is the stress on the hospitals, why the long shutdown, why the masks?
OK the death rate Utah has had 181 total Total COVID-19 Deaths that is 36.2 per month.
According to the CDC, Utah had 334 death due to Flu/Pneumonia That is 27.8 deaths per month.
So all of the shutdowns, all of the masks, all of the destroyed business, all of the domestic violence, all of the substance abuse, and all of the suicides, over 10 deaths per month.
I know that sounds harsh, but consider the fact that we do not know what the long term results will be from this. Some experts are telling us that the suicide rate due to the shutdown will be higher than the deaths as a result of COVID 19. Some reports are a 65% jump in calls to the suicide prevention hotline the first week of the shutdown.
By way of comparison. Also in 2017, there were 663 suicides (55.25 per month), and the leading reason for death was heart disease at 3,749 (312.42).
